Architecture of PLC

Fig. Shows the architecture of PLC

 The basic functions of architecture:
(I) CONTROLLER:-
It is the most important part of our PLC that will control the whole process from its begining to the end of the process. It includes many different types of processes like Input Scan, Output Scan, Program Scan.

(II) INPUTS:-
In Micro logix 1000, We have 6 Inputs and all the inputs are isolated from each other. So that we can used them indepandently according to our requirements.

(III) OUTPUTS:-
In Micro logix 1000, We have 4 outputs and all the outputs are isolated from each other. So that we can used them indepandently according to our requirements.

(IV) MEMORY:-
It is a storage place for the programs that we have downloaded. At one time we can store only one program in this memory.

(V) COMMUNICATION PORT AND CABLE:-
Through communication port we will connect our PLC to CPU by using a communication cable & giving some command through the software RS Linx Classic.

(VI) SMPS:-

It will Convert our 220V AC supply into 24V DC supply which is required for the proper working of our PLC.

Introduction to Automation

                     INTRODUCTION TO AUTOMATION

Automation can be defined as a process or number of processes going in a proper mannered way.
OR   Automation can also be defined as a combination of engineering tools and I.T software.

AUTOMATION:-

Engineering Tools                                                                       I.T Software
1. PLC                                                                                            1. RS Linx classic
2. Switches                                                                                     2. RS Logix 500
3. LED's                                                                                         3. RS View 32
4. Wires
5. Drives

(I) Advantages of Automation:-

  a. Reduction in labour or manpower.
  b. The process will be Time efficient.
  c. Increase in accuracy.
  d. Quality increases, Wastage reduces.
  e. Benificial in high risk areas.

(II) Disadvantages of Automation:-

  a. Increase in un-employment.
  b. High initial cost.
  c. High accidental & risk.

(III) Applications of Automation:-

  a. TON timer
  b. Retentive timer

What is PLC?

                                                    PLC INFORMATION
Plc is Programmable and logical control. It is basically an electrical device which will control the whole process from its begining to end of the process.
Before PLC's relay circuits were used to automatic the system but there are some kind of drawbacks.

  1. Complex wiring
  2. Hundreds of relay are use to automate a single process
  3. Error detection was very difficult.
NOTE: PLC is used over micro controller in industries just because PLC can work on high industrial voltage.
